Hi, I’m Hernan — a Software Engineer from La Paz, Bolivia, with a degree in Systems Engineering from the Universidad Católica Boliviana, where I specialized in Computer Science.
During college, I discovered my passion for algorithms and programming competitions, especially the ACM ICPC. Those experiences took me across Bolivia and abroad, including training camps at UNICAMP in Brazil — some of the most rewarding and formative experiences of my student years.
After graduation, I began my career as an individual contributor and eventually grew into technical leadership roles, collaborating with incredibly talented engineers on challenging and impactful projects.
Currently, I work at LandingAI a deep learning company focused on computer vision, founded by Andrew Ng, where I help build systems that bring AI into the real world. My main technical interests today are scalable inference for LLMs and VLMs, and I’m fascinated by how large-scale AI systems can be optimized for performance and accessibility.
Outside of work, I’m married to a wonderful woman and father to an amazing daughter. I also love teaching, and I’m often invited to lecture on Algorithms and Data Structures and Distributed Systems at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
When I’m not coding or teaching, you’ll probably find me hiking in the mountains around La Paz, enjoying the outdoors and recharging with nature.
